5 Minute Read:
As women age, our breasts naturally begin to lose the volume and perkiness we once had in our youth. Especially if you’ve breastfed, your breasts might have excess skin or appear to be sagging. If you want to have that youthful bounce again, you may want to consider a Breast Lift, or as known as a Mastopexy! When deciding to get a breast lift, you must choose between the 3 different incision patterns for your treatment. In this article, you will learn about these three patterns and what each one can do for you!
Peri-Areola

The peri-areola breast lift, also known as the crescent lift or the donut lift, incisions are created along the areola to remove a wedge of skin. With this lift, the diameter on your areola can be reduced and the nipple areolas can be lifted about half an inch to make them centered of your breasts. This can also be done to correct asymmetry of your areolas. Asymmetry is when something is uneven or not the same on either side. The Peri-areola breast lift is a relatively quick procedure with very little down time, and can even be performed under a local anesthesia. The best part about this procedure is that you will experience very little scarring as the incisions will blend in along the line of the areola.
Lollipop

Lollipop Breast Lift
The lollipop breast lift looks like it sounds, a lollipop! This incision will be made around the areola then down vertically to look like a lollipop. With the lollipop incision, the surgeon is able to remove excess skin, and significantly reduce the diameter of the areolas if needed. The recovery for a lollipop breast lift involves keeping your incisions clean and dry for approximately four to six weeks. This procedure will take longer than a peri-areola lift and you will have a more visible vertical scar in addition to the scar around the areola. Most patients report their scars heal and fade to a very thin, hairline scar. In addition, this procedure can be done under a general or a local anesthesia.
Weiss Pattern

The weiss pattern lift, also known as the anchor lift or the keyhole pattern, will give you the most drastic results. The incision will be made around the areola then down vertically to underneath the breast in the inframammary fold. If you have large natural breasts, or a lot of skin laxity, then this is most likely the lift you will need. This procedure can be done under a local however, its not recommended for all patients. The weiss pattern lift takes approximately four hours and involves a lot of sewing to close the incisions. Simply, you would be laying still for hours unable to move. Most patients choose to have this procedure done under a general anesthesia. Like the lollipop breast lift, your recovery will mostly consist of caring for your incisions and after procedure scar care.
