MiraDry® in Newport Beach

Many people struggle with excessive sweating under their arms. There are various treatments offered to address this condition, but none can match the speed and effectiveness of miraDry®. MiraDry® is a unique thermal-based treatment that eliminates sweat and odor-producing glands from the underarm area. These glands are removed permanently, so one treatment provides life-long results.

Why Choose Dr. Bandy for MiraDry® Treatment?

Dr. Am Bandy is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Newport Beach, California, with over 20 years of experience. She is an award-winning plastic surgeon in Orange County and Los Angeles County and was voted “Best Cosmetic Surgeon” by the Orange County Register’s People’s Choice Survey.

What Are the Benefits of MiraDry®?

MiraDry® provides permanent life-changing results for patients who have hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). Most patients report that a single treatment permanently reduced underarm sweat. On occasion, some patients require a second treatment to ensure optimal results.

Patients who no longer have hyperhidrosis are freed from a condition that can limit their daily activities or social life and reduce their self-esteem. This treatment provides an effective cure with minimal downtime and extremely low risks.

How Does MiraDry® Work to Stop Underarm Sweating Permanently?

The first stage of treatment involves your doctor applying a local anesthetic to your armpits. A series of marks will be placed on the armpit skin to act as guideposts for the treatment. The miraDry® device will be placed over the targeted area, and microwave-based thermal energy will be unleashed. Between a cooling mechanism on the device itself and the anesthetic, patients should feel little, if any, discomfort.

The thermal energy will target and destroy sweat-producing glands in the lower tissues without damaging the skin over them. This allows miraDry® to be used safely without the risks associated with other anti-sweat treatments. Once the sweat glands are eliminated, the procedure concludes.

Am I a Candidate for MiraDry®?

Many people struggle with excess underarm sweat. If you are one of them, miraDry® can help. If excess sweating impacts your daily activities, wardrobe, or self-confidence, you may want to consider treatment. MiraDry® is ideal for patients who have already tried other treatments to address their condition because, unlike other treatments, miraDry® deals with excess sweating at the source by eliminating the sweat glands directly.

Ideal miraDry® patients will be in good health, without medical conditions that may increase the difficulty of the treatment. Patients with medical conditions related to sensitive skin or active infections in the treatment area should consult with their doctor before undergoing treatment.

What Is Recovery Like After MiraDry®?

The skin in the treated area may swell and be tender in the first few days following a miraDry® treatment. Some patients have compared the feeling to that of a sunburn. These effects should fade within three days. During this period, over-the-counter medications and ice packs can be used to alleviate discomfort. Patients should avoid exercise, heavy lifting, and other rigorous activities for two or three days following treatment.

How Much Does MiraDry® Cost in Newport Beach, CA?

MiraDry® treatments tend to range between $1,000 and $4,000 per treatment. The costs of a miraDry® treatment vary depending on the doctor and the location of treatment.

Dr. Bandy will give you a more accurate miraDry® cost assessment once you have had a consultation. Our office partners with several financing companies to ensure that the procedure is affordable. The price of miraDry® should not be a significant obstacle for patients in need.

How Effective Is MiraDry®?

Clinical evaluation and peer-reviewed experiments published in numerous medical journals indicate that miraDry® has an extraordinary success rate, with both medical examiners and patients reporting success and satisfaction at over 90 percent.

What Are the Risks of MiraDry® Treatments?

For most patients, the only risks associated with miraDry® are those mentioned above, minor swelling, redness, skin irritation, and so on, usually lasting only a few days. In rare cases, there have been reports that miraDry® caused nerve damage in the treated area. This risk appears to be quite low but can not be entirely discarded. Overall, the risk of complications is extremely low, while the chances of successful treatment remain incredibly high.

Is Removing Sweat Glands a Problem?

While it is true that humans need to be able to sweat to keep cool, miraDry® will not impact your body’s ability to regulate temperature. The sweat glands under your arms comprise only two percent of the human body’s sweat glands. Removing them is perfectly safe and should have no adverse effects in the short or long term.

Can I Combine Other Treatments With MiraDry®?

Yes, patients often visit Dr. Bandy for more than one cosmetic treatment at a time. Laser resurfacing treatments and chemical peel treatments can rejuvenate wrinkled, sun-damaged skin. Dr. Bandy also offers specially formulated skin care for acne and laser hair removal treatment for a complete reduction of hair growth. Discuss these and other cosmetic treatment options at your miraDry® consultation with Dr. Bandy.
